Make your haters your motivators

So much drama going on in the blogisphere right now.   It is between authors and bloggers, and now even between bloggers.  I really hate seeing this, it really puts a damper on the blogging world and I think it will eventually make some people quit doing something that they love.
I can understand when Authors can get their feelings hurt over a negative review, it is their baby it's something they have worked hard on.  That being said, I cannot understand how an author can take such offense to a so-so review.  Unless a blogger goes through a review and bashes the book, there is really no reason to take such an offense to that.  No Author is a God, so their work is not perfect.  If you are going to put yourself out there in the world with your work, then you have to expect that not everyone is going to love you and not everyone is going to accept your work.  Same thing with bloggers.  I put up a positive review of a book yesterday on my Vlog about a Religious related book and I got this horrible comment from someone attacking me personally and telling me they wanted to kick my teeth in.  Way to be Christian!    We should all pull up our big boy and girl panties and move on and most of all  STOP ATTACKING EACH OTHER!!  There is nothing good that is going to come out of that.  If you put out negative energy, it's only going to come back to you.  I was shocked and troubled by the story that I heard yesterday within the blogging community.  It is the worst thing that can happen when bloggers go at it between each other.  We are striving to be respected and to NOT have authors attack us for our feelings on their book.  The worst thing we can do is attack each other, it will only make us weaker as a group.

So, in closing, I would like to say that we all need to get along.  If you have a problem with someone, simply talk to them about it and never attack someone.  You will only regret it later on when the word gets around and it will get around, it's inevitable.  Before you jump the gun or try to make something out of nothing, think about your actions first.  For every action there is an equal reaction.  Be kind to one another, we have enough to deal with, with attacks from troll commentors and authors that can sometimes be a little over sensitive.

  1. So far over the last year I have considered dropping my youtube channel twice because of the haters. I am lucky enough to not have any on my blog (yet) but goodreads and youtube seems to be a worm-hole of bad press and an easy place for the trolls and haters to post things at random. Most of the time I shrug it off, but honestly it has taken away my love of reading and sharing a lot of the time it's not a game I want to play anymore. My other option has been to just make comments disabled, but what's the fun of that because I'd miss out on making new friends and learning new things. I know a lot of people have decided only to do positive reviews as a result, but as a person who reads alot, I can't love everything and it's not an honest review if you choose not to do a negative post in a way your not being honest with yourself or those that follow you.

  2. Oh and the previous statement is of course about bloggers vs bloggers and haters etc. I have never in any way shape or form have ever had anything negative regarding authors and in my opinion most of the stuff that is going around about the authors is blown out of proportion by the hurt person to gather support in the issue, but as far as I know I have always seen the author follow up with an apology.
I agree that it must be truly devastating to have something you have worked on for year, or years be torn apart by a reader. It's heartbreaking and sometimes emotions get the best of us all.

  3. I was just going to do a post on this today. I am still very upset over the whole thing...it is quite ridiculous. You did a great job w/ this post. As for what Krista said about ppl only doing positive reviews. I will never do that. I want people to know about what I dont like to and why I don't like it. If they don't agree that is fine, and if they wanna be ignorant and say some hateful stuff then I will deal with it then. But I do this because I want to give HONEST reviews.

  4. It is frustrating, but one thing you have to remember, especially about youtube, is that there is power in anonymity. Because people aren't speaking directly to your face they feel like they can say horrible things they normally wouldn't say in real life. You mix religion into that, where people do and say all sorts of nasty things because another person doesn't 100% agree with them, and well it can become a (pardon my french) cluster fuck real fast.

I love your youtube, so I think that your choice to just delete, block, and ignore is the best. Keep doing what you do, you have lots of people who <3 you!
